Welcome From the Desk of the President
The Tuskegee Airmen from across the country were recently awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in a ceremony in Washington, DC for their outstanding service to the people of this great nation during World War II. The Airmen, several from North Carolina, were recognized for their perseverance, determination and exemplary performance while being criticized by many that they lacked the intelligence, skill, courage and patriotism to serve as defenders of their country.
In 2005, the “Heart of Carolina Chapter” of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., received its charter and established as its mission to:
- Preserve the legacy of the “Tuskegee Airmen”
- Inspire the nation’s Youth
- Share the knowledge and history of the “Tuskegee Airmen”
It is with tremendous pride, and a strong sense of privilege and honor, that we, as members of the Heart of Carolina Chapter, duly accept the great challenge and honor of continuing the vision and dreams of these great black men and women. These men and women distinguished themselves so ably, and did so in spite of enormous obstacles due to racism, segregation, isolation and exclusion. The men and women of U. S. Army Air Corps at Tuskegee, Alabama set an example for individuals in pursuit of personal excellence, and those seeking to define the limits of individual perseverance and determination.
It is the Heart of Carolina Chapter’s goal to build on the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen and the rich aviation history of the State of North Carolina. We will inform, motivate and educate youth regarding the importance of determination in accomplishing goals, and the importance of the role of aerospace in global leadership.
We look forward to your support, and are excited in anticipation of your partnership in assisting youth through mentoring, tuition assistance, scholarships, internships and other career and education enhancing opportunities. I personally invite you to take a few moments to view our website to learn more about our chapter and its mission. Then, please join us in our efforts to strengthen North Carolina’s strong aviation and aerospace industry as we prepare the next generation of leaders.
